How Much Does a Website Cost in South Africa? (2026 Guide)

A plain-English breakdown of what websites really cost in South Africa in 2026 — from starter sites to online stores — and what changes the price.

It is the first question almost every business owner asks — and the most common answer online is a frustrating "it depends." So let us be specific. Here is what websites actually cost in South Africa in 2026, in plain rands, and what makes the number go up or down.

The short answer

  • Starter website (up to 3 pages): from R3,500
  • Business website (up to 6 pages, self-editable): from R7,500
  • Larger content site (10+ pages, blog): from R13,500
  • Online store / custom app: from R20,000

Those are once-off build prices. Most reputable providers (us included) give you a fixed quote up front, so you are not billed by the hour with a surprise at the end.

What actually drives the price

  1. 1Number of pages and how much content needs building.
  2. 2Whether you need to edit it yourself (a content management system adds a bit but saves you money long-term).
  3. 3Special features — online payments, bookings, user logins, integrations.
  4. 4Design complexity — a template-based site is cheaper than a fully custom design.
  5. 5Ongoing needs — hosting, maintenance and support (usually a small monthly fee).

What about the monthly costs?

Beyond the build, budget for hosting (often R99/month or so) and an optional care plan for updates, backups and support. A domain (your .co.za address) is inexpensive and sometimes included for the first year.

A cheap website that never brings in a customer is expensive. The right question is not "what is the cheapest?" but "what will pay for itself fastest?"
